Nothing to see here...

« on: June 19, 2017, 06:04:09 AM »

Took the bike for a little overnighter from Rochester, NY to the Carlton Hill Multiple Use Are (state land about an hour southwest of Rochester).  Stayed off the highways, had nice weather, and camping was great.  I'm riding a Yamaha XT225, so needless to say I try to pack light.

All packed up:

First stop, gas (used just over a gallon for the whole trip!)

Turns out I was camping just a couple miles from the Rolling Hills Asylum (as featured on a few of those ghost hunters shows.) Described as "one of the most haunted places in America," a true 19th century asylum whose residents were in fact called "inmates."  So I decided to stop by and see if any ghosts were around. Nope all was quiet.

More info here:

Back on the road:

And "the campsite"

Had a couple pass through on horseback, with their dog trailing:

Enjoyed a nice dinner of chicken and rice:

Followed by a cigar and bourbon in my little collapsible cup:

Sunrise (and no ghosts between sunset and sunrise either, none that I saw anyway):

MMMM Coffee!!:

(coffeemaker is also collapsible - gotta save space on this little thumper)

Took a different route home for different scenery, good choice!

all smiles

Nice going anthonyd! That is a really sweet ride and great camping trip. Thanks for showing us your camping gear and how you used it too!
It's been a long time since I've done an overnight ride.
Cheers!  ricky
