Wow, what a timely topic! It just so happens that I started bank fishing for the first time in my life three few weeks ago! Lake Bastrop has been very good to me.
Pretty exciting stuff, I was nervous and shaking a bit when I reeled in my first catch.
Fishing gets deep really quick, tons to learn and observe.

I got a rod and reel combo for my wife, and she doing great!

Yes, I am paying close attention to any plants that look poisonous! Fortunately the bank access from the campgrounds is clear of vegetation, however bank access from the trails does have vegetation to beware of.

Cool photo Voltar!
So, just as I was about to give up for the day, I managed to catch one small bass. It was interesting though, because I tried a new lure and fishing technique.
The lure is a rubber crawdad, and I pitched it on top of a blanket of weeds. As soon as it landed on top of the weeds I saw the weeds rise and circle around the bait.
One twitch of the bait and the bass took it! I never saw the bass until I dragged it out for 20 feet from under the weeds.

Today's overcast weather meant good fishing! I arrived at 6:30 am, and fish were jumpin, but I didn't catch any until 8:00 am.
I was able to replicate the way I was fishing with the Crawdad, and caught two. The other two were caught using a rubber worm.
I stayed at my favorite shore location the whole morning.

i love to fish as well. Kosmic that is a nice looking fish. when i was younger i loved going fishing about 1am on a full moon, you'd be amazed how well you can fish at night. If you use a light, it increases odds as well, but I've never used a light.

I caught my first bass in the dark of the morning! 5:44 AM

Later that morning I walked an extra 1.5 miles to go the far end of the lake, and never expected to catch six in a row, and two got away! Very exciting stuff, especially when reeling them in against a bit of a current.

We are fishing from the shore and pier, at Goose Island State park. Post storm conditions forced a red drum into a shallow area, and by pure chance I was able to experience it!

My wife is doing great on the pier!

And thank you to my brother for loaning us his new trailer!
