The very generous Alaskan RDS Member, Frostbit and his lovely wife ML are hosting Sahara and I for a week of Alaskan Adventure! Frostbit was instrumental in RideDualSport getting off the ground, being one of the first members to join RDS in 2008.  He gave lots of encouragement and support to me, liked the flavor of RDS, and greatly shaped the culture of our humble forum. One year after joining RDS Frostbit and company came to Texas to attend the inaugural B.U.T.T. ride @ Big Bend Ranch State Park (the very first organized dual sport event in the park's history) which was the brain child of DoctorXRR.

After attending the B.U.T.T. ride, Frostbit and Company came to a small town near the Guadalupe Mountains in West Texas to meet me for the very first time.

I had not attended the first B.U.T.T. ride, instead I was in North Carolina, so I drove from NC to West Texas to meet them.
We had a great time doing this!

Fast-forward to Frostbit and Company's second B.U.T.T. ride in 2012, where he came with a slightly smaller bike to enjoy some of this!

It was during this visit to Texas when Frostbit made a super generous offer to come explore Alaska.  ricky ricky ricky
We are scheduled to fly into Seattle for a family visit, then off to Alaska. Say tuned!

The King and Queen of RDS are indeed here and seem to be enjoying themselves... I think that there are smiles beneath those helmets.

For the most part, they seem to get along well...

But, there have been moments...

We have tried to keep them out of the weeds but as soon as our back is turned, well, kids will be kids...

Apparently it is in the weed's that the really cool sights can be found...

We are going to Seward tomorrow with Frostbit and ML!
Frostbit's brother has kindly lent us his 950 KTM Adventure - yummy!
We are having an incredible vacation thanks to our hosts!

Here is a view of a glacier on the way back from our Denali Hwy ride:

Friends and family of Kosmic had better prepare themselves for his return to Texas. He has turned all Mountain Man and now wears a coon skin cap, quit his personal grooming habits and now keeps a throwing axe close at hand. I'm not sure if he'll ever be the same...

We truly apologize for breaking him.

Here are our wonderful hosts, Chuck, ML, and Frostbit who made our Alaska Adventure possible!
I can't thank them enough for their generosity and intimate knowledge of Alaska that made our trip so extraordinary!

Chuck kindly allowed us to ride his KTM 950 - its got tons of character, handles great and remarkably light for its size.

Our flight to Alaska, from Seattle went really well and this view from the window gave me butterflies in my stomach in anticipation of our great Adventure!

Our kind and generous host Frostbit had his trusty steeds waiting for us. Sahara rode the nicely appointed WR 250 with a windshield and I rode the hopped up DRZ 400 which had a very stout motor indeed! The bikes were set up with luggage and wiring for electric vests too!

Our first encounter with Moose on our way to Hatcher Pass, not far from Frostbit's home.

We were blessed with incredible weather for the entire trip - the light fog and mist would wisp its way through the mountains and the sun was out often! Occasionally we encountered a light and brief rain, but comfortable riding gear that could be layered on demand, which was supplemented by electric vests handled all varieties of riding conditions.

The amazingly creative and resourceful Frostbit rigged my Roadcrafter with an awesome retractable lanyard for my camera!
Frostbit has refined the process of taking pictures while riding in the Aerostich, the lanyard it located in the right side breast pocket in precise location to allow you to easily pull your camera out with your left hand, extend your arm to any position, snap the photo and drop the camera back into the pocket - all while keeping your throttle under control, and there is no need to fumble around zipping the pocket.
I even dropped my camera while riding, and the lanyard saved it!
I was blown away by this incredibly well thought out system that Frostbit so kindly took the time to install!

Alaska is rich and varied environment where you can marvel mountain views and at the same time feast on what is right below your feet!

When not munching delicious berries, we rocked and rolled in a very special place!

This part of the ride was mind-blowing - I was experiencing what only a select handful of people can see and do - and felt as though I was having a spiritual experience which my mind could not process.  So I just let go of my mind and all of life's unimportant trappings in order let myself feel the experience, the mountain will forever be with me.

The size and scale of Alaska's beauty is phenomenal and what is so striking about Alaska is how there are absolutely no signs of commercialization and exploitation in the wilderness. It is possible to feel like your the first person to every have experienced the area, because it is so pristine!

The retractable lanyard at work, you can see the fuzzy portion of my camera cord in the lower right corner.

As you can see we were blessed with perfect weather - the views were unobstructed by rain, fog and clouds which are normally very present.
Frostbit made all the stars align on this adventure!

Our Host Frostbit, leading the way through paradise!  ricky

The clouds would burn off by late afternoon, but they really add an extra dimension to the sky and have a neat effect on the lighting.

Here you get a sense of the scale of the mountain sides and the steep drop-offs!
I am riding behind my wife Sahara and feeling mighty proud of her, and so happy that we are experiencing this together on motorcycles!
