The trip is now officially underway after spending an hour to get through airport security at Ted Stevens International. Can't wait to see if the 650 will start after sitting for the winter... I'm giving it a 98.6% chance that it will. smile

Now it's hurry up and wait... wait...  wait...

Oh, and that's not me in the picture with the neckbrace on, thankfully.

The flight out of Anchorage went right over our house in Eagle River and made for a cool way to start off a trip...

After two flights I find myself in Texas... Texas?? Yes, Texas!! Just one more flight to be reunited with...

Oh yeah, and family.

Boy you said it Pat. It's been a mighty long day on planes that didn't instill confidence in America Airlines maintenance program or their concern about customer comfort...

I left Alaska for this? I must have lost my mind...

I may have overstated the odds of my bike starting right up by just a little bit. The battery wasn't only dead but dead and not willing to come back to life. Number 1 on tomorrows to-do list - GET NEW BATTERY.

Next time the battery tender stays plugged in all winter.

I was only going to do the unicycle bit because I thought that you rode the TLH that way. Hell, if you didn't, I might just as well put the front wheel back on.

I'm on my up to Canton MI to get the new battery.....................................................Now. smile

It was the BMW Motorcycles of Southeast Michigan on exit 25 (Ford rd.) off of 275. They are very helpful people in that shop. thumb

So now I have a new battery that I got 1/2 installed before we went out for dinner. Once back from dinner I put the faux tank on and then a bunch of neighbors came by to visit. It was starting get dark by the time they left and I was overly eager to get out for a ride. Jumped on the bike, started it up and headed down the driveway. As I started into a right turn the throttle pegged itself. I was quick on the clutch and stopped but leaning too far into the turn to keep from laying down the bike at the bottom of the driveway. No harm done but one heck of a wake up call. What happened was that when I dropped the forks out of the triple tree the throttle cable rerouted itself and I didn't notice it when I slide the forks back in.

So my lesson for today is pace yourself and when there are too many distractions to be thorough on setting up a bike... don't ride.

Class dismissed. ricky

Wow. Frostbit, I am glad it was a wake-up call and not a wake-up accident.
I totally understand how the adrenalin is flowing when your working on the bike at the start of
the adventure. Distractions are not good when the forks are being put together.

Patrice, I hope your wife's interest blossoms. thumb It would be beyond excellent to have a constant riding companion... just ask 2TTW. ricky ricky

As for the wake-up call... I'm now pacing myself and will be checking chain tension, tire pressure, look over all cables and generally get reaquainted before tomorrow's ride.

Well I think that my bought with extreme stupidity has finally past. The bike is now loaded and tonight's test ride went well. Troy has been having similar battery issues today in Iowa but things are looking up for him and he should be getting here tomorrow evening.

 ricky ricky

I'm going to post the SPOT link for this trip a little early just in case there are glitches to workout with it.

Just checked it..   the POINT shows up just fine....

I must have gotten a message crossed somewhere...   at one point I thought you said you were leaving for HV-GB on the 18th....    With me leaving the 25th...  we would have crossed..

I see now that you are flying back the 14th...   Does not look like a meeting will occur unless you guys come bythe world HQ of 2TTW!

Do you have "tracking" set up on the SPOT or do you just hit the OK button at intervals??

Let the adventure begin.   To celebrate, I'm having a cup of that freshly ground Frostbit/AKTroy coffee in the AM when I get up!   beer

Good luck and have fun!

I'll have it on tracking mode for the entire trip and I might show up on 2TTW's doorstep on the way back because I heard mention something about a single malt scotch...  beer

As for the 18th... my fat fingers probably misspoke. smile

You heard right Mr. Frostbit (you too AKTroy).  There's plenty of single malt watin' for thirsty travelers if they make it down this way.     beer     drink

That includes the 21 year old Glenlevit my beloved bought me for my BD (that is if someone doesn't drink it all before you get here)   lol    yikes

Oh... and if'n you're hankerin for a different ride for the day, there's a couple of machines here you could try out.  If you want...   naughty
